BIOGRAPHY


Croatian conductor Berislav Skenderovic, is founder, Music Director & Chief-Conductor (2001—2016) of Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra. Recently he was also Artistic director of National Opera SNP in Novi Sad. He started his international career as ballet conductor at Bayerische Staats Opera in Munich (1979). In 1981 he was appointed as Chief-conductor at the Opera of Croatian National Theatre (HNK) in Split. From 1986 he was Chief-conductor of Sarajevo Radio & Television Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest-Conductor of Dubrovnik Festival Orchestra. From 1992 he was appointed as Chief-conductor of Cape Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) in Cape Town, (RSA). He studied piano and conducting at the Belgrade Music Academy and at Hochschule fur Musik (Music Academy) in Munich under Professor M. Hermann. He was also studied with great conductors Wolfgang Sawalisch at Bayerische Staatsopera and Sergiu Celibidache at Munich Philharmonic.

Berislav Skenderovic has conducted with prestigious orchestras in Germany, Hungary, Austria, Poland, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Czech, Azerbaijan, Mexico, Canada, Chile, Brazil, Korea, America, Israel. He was guest conductor on concerts with such orchestras as Polish Radio Orchestra, Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Dubrovnik Festival Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, Orquesta Filarmonica de la UNAM Mexico, Orquesta Sinfonica de la UANL, Sinfonica Carlos Chavez, Camera de BellasArtes, Orchestra Metropolitana Lisbon, Pilsner State Philharmonic orchestra, Azerbaijan State Philharmonic orchestra, Toronto Sinfonia, Odessa Philharmonic orchestra including successful debut in New York in Carnegie Hall with New England Symphony Orchestra. During his fruitful career Berislav Skenderovic has collaborating with many international acclaimed artists, such as: Grigory Zhislin, Igor Politkovsky, Maria Kliegel, Ljiljana Molnar Talajic, Ciprian Katsaris, Dubravka Tomsic, Ksenija Jankovic, Stefan Milenkovic, Nemanja Radulovic, Aleksandar Madzar, Jasminka Stancul, Roman Simovic, Rostislav Krimer, Da Sol Kim, Laszlo Fenyo, Katarina Jovanovic, Chiristoph Berner, Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic, Lana Kos… He participated at many international festivals, such as: Biennale Zagreb, Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Split Summer Festival, Grahams Music Festival, Lithuanian Summer Festival, NOMUS, Kotorart…

Acclaimed for his passionate performances Berislav Skenderovic has won critical and public praise for his interpretation of Russian masters as Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Stravinsky as well for great German repertoire as Strauss, Bruckner, Mahler. He has conducted over thousand concerts and almost all of the major orchestral works from classical to contemporary music as well as musicals and all major operas including: Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana, Aida, Rigoletto, La Traviata, Un ballo di mascera, Tosca, La Boheme, Madame Butterfly, Carmen, Don Giovanni… also all major Classical and XX century Ballet including all Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev ballet. He made also recordings for many Radio and TV, recording also several CD.
